Steve Reedy
MA, LPC, RMT, NMT, NCTMB
As a counseling specialist and mind/body consultant for Noyau Wellness Center, Steve Reedy holds an M.A. in professional counseling and is nationally certified to practice different modalities of mind/body work including neuromuscular therapy, medical massage, Thai massage and Reiki energy therapy. Steve’s background in professional speaking and psycho education has also allowed him to give classes on drug dependency, the mind/body connection, energy work, meditation, and anger/anxiety management. He has been featured in local media including Dallas Child magazine.
Steve’s years of experience as a counselor, coach and body worker have shaped his belief that the world we live in is as natural to us as a habitrail is to a hamster. He believes that most individuals struggle to manage their lives at the tempo of our unnaturally fast-paced world. In trying to juggle their many responsibilities, life goals and expectations, Steve feels individuals easily lose their balance, finding themselves stressed, depressed, physically uncomfortable or confused as to which direction they should go next. In helping individuals rediscover their natural balance, Steve utilizes a variety of therapy strategies, including cognitive, person-centered and his own timeline therapy. Each of these therapy strategies helps the client to better recognize core beliefs about him or herself, many of which may have been formed (unintentionally) long ago. Steve then encourages his clients to re-evaluate their core beliefs in a way that will change how they perceived their past, present, and future and thereby elevate or eliminate the cause of their psychosis. The end result would be to give his clients a more peaceful mind in which to live.
Steve has seen great success using his therapeutic style with couples and families. A misperception of one’s partner, and the miscommunication that follows, appears to be the primary cause of marital unrest. After helping his clients change the global perspective of themselves and their relationship, Steve continues to help them heal their relationship by guiding them through the mental and physical issues created by years of miscommunication. These could include issues with sexual intimacy, automatic responses toward each other’s behavior, and a host of other issues that prevent a couple from creating a healthy and loving connection to their partner.
Steve has studied a wide variety of belief systems from all around the world, and utilizes meditation, yoga, energy, and relaxation training when appropriate. Other areas of cognitive treatment include depression, anxiety, issues with sexual intimacy or function, chronic pain, chemical dependency, and career coaching.
Having spent his internship counseling in mental hospitals and drug treatment facilities, Steve has recognized common deficiencies with many mainstream substance rehabilitation programs. Because of this he is currently working on a book about substance abuse and addiction. He is also writing a children’s storybook designed to help tweens deal with the psychosis they face while coming of age in Western society. Steve also enjoys traveling, and has spent time in Thailand learning different methods of healing. Staying true to his belief in mind/body balance, Steve is active in yoga, bike riding and other means of physical fitness.
