Holistic Medicine

Noyau Holistic medicine integrates conventional and alternative therapies to treat a client’s mind, body, and spirit. The doctor works to treat and heal the disease, not just the symptoms. The body, mind, and spirit are addressed individually and as a whole while all aspects of the disease and treatment are considered.

Noyau Holistic treatment may include dietary and lifestyle changes, detoxification, therapeutic body work, herbal therapy, aromatherapy, acupuncture, and/or various other treatments depending on your needs. Our doctor focuses on the disease itself, the patient, and his or her lifestyle to determine the cause. By finding, treating, and eliminating the cause, the chance for recurrence is limited.

At Noyau, we have chosen a holistic doctor with a specialty in acupuncture because of its studied and proven benefits to mental health.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a 5000 year old holistic treatment that originated in China and has since spread world wide. U.S. researchers began running studies to investigate the veracity of claims that acupuncture could treat mental illness some years ago, and their findings were a resounding “yes it can”.

Acupuncture works to restore balance throughout the body to decrease symptoms related to both mental and physical health by stimulating the release of endorphins and neurotransmitters. Acupuncture has been proven successful in the treatment of depression, anxiety, grief/loss, PTSD, and addiction issues including nicotine and drug dependence.

Physical health concerns are also addressed with the use of acupuncture treatments. Chronic pain disorders such as migraines, arthritis, muscle pain, and menstrual cramps are effectively treated with the use of acupuncture. Other physical conditions that are often treated with acupuncture are: weight control / obesity, gastrointestinal disorders, allergies, chemotherapy/radiation recovery, respiratory disorders such as sinusitis, common cold and bronchitis.

You don’t have to have a pervasive disorder to benefit from the use of acupuncture. For thousands of years people have been seeking acupuncture for the use of preventative measures. Studies show that acupuncture boosts the immune system and provides increased energy. In fact many people visit their acupuncturist only 2-4 times a year for a “tune up”. In conjunction with a healthy lifestyle acupuncture can enhance your overall functioning, allowing you to reach your goals for both physical and emotional fulfillment.

A typical acupuncture visit will include an assessment by the acupuncturist where you will answer basic questions regarding your physical and emotional functioning. Once a diagnosis is made the acupuncturist will develop and explain her treatment plan so that you have a detailed understanding of what the session will entail.

Acupuncture needles are solid and very thin (.25mm). The number of needles inserted will depend on your individual case but will range on average between six and twelve. The number of needles is not as important as the placement, as the location of each needle will determine the effected area. You will experience a slight pinch as the needle is inserted but should feel no pain beyond that. If you do feel pain, be sure to express this to the acupuncturist.

The entire session takes an average 45-50 minutes. Once your session is complete many patients experience a deep relaxation or a boost of energy. You are welcome to relax in our waiting room for as long as you would like and help yourself to complementary beverages. We recommend you drink plenty of water before and after treatment for hydration.

Noyau’s Holistic Doctor will determine if you can benefit from acupuncture or the other treatments offered. Each person’s plan is individualized to his or her needs and may contain one or more of the various treatments available.
