Prescription drug addiction is one that is rapidly increasing as our society continues to develop and prescribe more medication to deal with ailments and illness. This type of addiction can be confusing and difficult to identify because a respected and trusted doctor has prescribed the medication. Initially, the medication did work to relieve your symptoms, but you find yourself having to increase your dosage frequently to try to experience the relief you felt in the beginning. You feel like you are in a never ending cycle and are not sure when enough will be enough. You worry that you will always experience the same amount of pain and are feeling like there is nothing else out there that can help you manage your struggle.
No one starts out taking prescription medication with the expectation of becoming an addict. Unfortunately, medications such as Vicodin, codeine, and oxycontin are physically addictive. This also includes prescriptions prescribed for mental health needs such as Xanax, Adderall, and Ritalin. They lessen the brain’s own ability to produce positive chemicals such as dopamine and endorphins so that one begins to crave the addition of the medication. This type of addiction is one of the hardest in which to break free because it alters the brainʼs chemicals so significantly.
Most people who fall into this type of addiction need additional help to overcome the situation in which they have found themselves. Noyau Wellness Center has experts in counseling, nutrition, massage therapy, and holistic medicine to help you heal and break the chains of medication. Our therapists will work with you to develop the right coping mechanisms for you, process past issues that have led you to this place, work through current issues that have been created or are adding to the problem, and identify potential threats and plans for the future. The rest of our team will identify changes that might need to be made in your diet and fitness, help rid your body of the toxins adding to your pain, identify potential ways to heal your pain without medication, and may encourage the addition of healthier options through massage or holistic medicine that could potentially ease your discomfort.
